The standardized test has to go for one. But we need another school model, one that actually makes the children want to come to school and learn and teachers want to teach. We need to look at "successful" teaching models such as Finland. The colleges' of education teaching programs need to be looked at and a screening process set up to filter out those who really are not cut out for teaching. Lord knows how many my children and I had to endure and the teacher does make or break the learning environment. Also, mothers should be hired and trained to be teaching assistants. Children shouldn't just be dropped off and parents go in another direction. How much of the problems can be traced directly and indirectly to the economic system? The economic system forces parents to waste so much time and energy doing meaningless work just to put food on the table, that they don't even have time to get involved in their children's lives as they should. Poverty affects the kids as much as the parents and that's also one of the reasons for kids not being able to focus in a learning environment.
