Starlit Aspirations

They tell you when you’re young
That the world is your playground
And you can conquer every inch.
But this spinning cage
Simply binds us here,
Keeping us from a greater destiny.
You call the moon a triumph?
I call it a rock,
And the universe calls it a speck.
It thinks even less of us,
Because at least the moon knows its place.
We still question, “Why?”
Philosophize,
Debate, argue,
But never compromise-
Just assume arrogant lies.
Scientists and Jesus freaks
Give us laws, rules, and regulations
To keep the band from playing
“Pomp and Circumstance.”
But the band plays on, my friend…
On and on and on and on…
Like this unstoppable force,
This unconscious juggernaut,
This inevitable chaos
That we laughably explain
Through limiting language,
Fabricated mathematics,
And gods made in our own image.
Stop wondering what to think of the universe
And start wondering what the universe thinks of you,
If it does at all.
I don’t have the resolutions,
I just offer the obvious -
We’ll never have the answers,
And if we were meant to
We wouldn’t depend
On the air we breathe
And we’d never require a rocket
To reach the stars.
